Finding Peace

Where do you find peace? Perhaps you find peace in nature, or maybe at church, or among family and friends. All of these answers are legitimate, and yet, I have found them to be incomplete. The answer requires a deeper connection, and I suspect a bit of soul-searching. Peace is spiritual and begins inside each of us.

There are days when I am out in nature or at church, even among those I love, when peace truly evades me. My spirit is elsewhere, caught up in the stew of discontent. My mind races across problems waiting for me, chores, tasks, and issues where answers have eluded me. In those moments, I must pull from my source, the Spirit that sustains me. It is in this refocus that my heart settles and I can see more clearly.

I often spend time in nature. Fall is coming quickly. Already, plants have gone to seed, and autumn colors are peeking between the remaining greenery. I am reminded of the necessity of change and the grand movement of life. It speaks to me in ways that I cannot see with just my eyes. We are deeply connected to a greater cause and a greater life. How marvelous it is that we do not walk alone.
