A Block in The Road

Just for a moment,

Time to think things out,

While waiting

For things to clear.

Time is of the essence,

One must think before acting,

For it is a minor block in the road.

One should look everywhere when they are hiking.  My wife is not very tall.  She has her mind on taking photographs and not so much on what is going on around her.  My job is to keep my eyes open for possible shots.  I remember as were walking through this part of the Everglades, walking almost into a web stretched across the trail about face high.  This very large spider about the size of two hands together placed side by side was stretched out in its web before us.  Deb did not see it in front of her.  I yelled, “Stop!”  “Don’t take another step, freeze, don’t move.”  When she looked up where I was pointing she was face to face with this large web and in its center a very large beautiful spider.  She wanted to get a close-up picture, but I said, “You know spiders can jump.” I pointed out, the spider has battled before, only six of her eight legs are left.

The next question was how to get around it since the web, the largest I have seen, was entirely blocking the trail.

Meditation 

In life, there are many blocks that we must pass to meet our goals.  That block may be a minor situation that you have plenty of notice.  You can remove the block quickly without much thought to it.  Then the major ones may involve some real thought, mainly because it could be life-threatening.  Fear and anxiety can cause you to hurry and not think things through before acting.  As with the spider, we feared it might attack if we approached its web.  It was best we took careful steps around its territory.  Thinking and acting slowly, choosing a careful path around it, proved successful. Because we took our time neither we or the spider suffered any setback.
